Letter to the President of the Council of Ministers

Acquacalda, 01.12.2008

Illustrious President of the Council of Ministers Silvio Berlusconi

Dr. Palazzo Chigi
00100 Roma

Illustrious Mr. President,
we would draw your attention, while sapendoLa deeply engaged on issues of far greater importance on what is taking place in our small village of Lipari Acquacalda: potholes, landslides, devastating storms, lack of water supply, connections from the third world.

We complained, for years, the disintegration of the entire coastal area, caused by reckless exploitation of pumice quarries, together with an uncontrolled human settlement, without adequate infrastructure planning, all aggravated by a steady erosion from the sea along the coast, never protected.

The competent authorities municipal, provincial, regional, never have taken due account of what, in a totally obvious, manifested itself, day after day.

The neglect, inertia, the bounce of responsibilities, the abominable policy of confrontation, are still in the face of such an environmental disaster, which attitudes we ought to assist the vulnerable.

But the measure is full!

We can not and do not wish to be witnesses to a land that involves the annihilation of life, housing, the economy of the whole village
endangering our existence and what we have more care, the future of our children.

Welcome, Mr. President, this modest but heard and decided "cry of pain" that we hope the person comes.

We are confident that you, from "man of action", have an urgent, given the state a major disaster, so that they implement, at all costs, a serious plan of action decisive, definitive, carefully monitored because it is not transformed into usually money-eating bandwagon, which now protects this beautiful area and who still plays here his life honestly.

Thank you for what will do and I offer our most respectful compliments.

Enzo Mottola
President CASTA
